Is an AK-47 Legal to purchase/transfer in Maryland?

Posted by Alex on 3rd September 2010

I assume the WASR-10 could be legal because it is limited to 10 rounds. However, are other AK-47s legal that accept high capacity magazines? I understand that MD does not allow magazines greather than 20 rounds. Example: buying a Bulgarian AK-47 (7.62×39) with a 20 round double stack magazine – is this legal in Maryland? Thanks

its the magazine, not the gun.. all AK’s will accept a variety of magazines. and if the mag is already with the gun, then it is prob grandfathered.. either way .. dont worry about.. and whatever u do , dont get a Chineese one.. they are garbage.. LOL

Ak-47′s are perfectly legal in maryland.
The WASR ak-47 rifle will take ANY ak-47 magazine, except for Saiga rifle mags.

But you actually CAN have High-caps in maryland!
Its NOT ILLEGAL to posses or USE them, its ONLY illegal to BUY them, SELL them or TRANSFER THEM.

(yeahh go figuare, but im 100% SURE!!! Look it UP in the maryland state trooper website if you dont believe me!)

My buddy bought an ak-47 with some 75 round magazines AT AN FFL DEALER IN MARYLAND.

You CAN have 100rd drum mags in maryland…..just GETTING them may be illegal or tricky, but its NOT illegal to own them or use them!

This law is REALLY weird in maryland, and i cant remember HOW to get high-caps legally, but I GUARANTEE YOU 100% YOU CAN LEGALLY own them…….ask around, there are people that can probably tell you how to get them legally.

(maybe buying them at a gunshow and transferring them over to maryland, which IS illegal unless the gun came with it I believe.)
